Our Registered Maine Guides
At Midcoast Kayak, all our guides are registered with the State of Maine and have passed a competency test in order to gain that title. Our guides are fully certified in wilderness first aid and CPR, and each has the experience necessary to lead groups of sea kayakers onto the sea. We also pride ourselves in being helpful, friendly and fun.
Glenn ‘Mitch’ Mitchell is the owner of Midcoast Kayak. As a high school teacher, National Outdoor Leadership School instructor, independent rambler and Registered Maine Guide, Mitch has been guiding journeys around New England, Alaska, and South America for thirty years. His respect and connection to land and sea alike is evident in his teachings and everyday living.
Guide Paul Knight took up kayaking a little later in life and is now happily addicted to the sport. He is an avid explorer and has paddled around Midcoast Maine extensively, including exploring Hockomock Bay, Mussel Ridges, Stonington, Cobscook Bay, Passamaquoddy Bay, and Isle au haut. He has logged an impressive 600-800 miles a year of solo and group paddling. Paul lives in Portland and is a great and inspiring addition to the Midcoast Kayak team.
Joe is a Registered Maine Guide and ACA-certified open water sea kayak instructor. He is also a licensed clinical social worker and a returned Peace Corps volunteer (Zambia 07-09). Joe enjoys bringing people into the marine environment, and he calls the sea his therapist.
Chris is a native of Maine and has been guiding for many years in incredible places including Alaska and Sweden. He returned back to Maine with enthusiasm and passion to share the natural beauty of Maine while having fun on the water. Chris will make sure you have a safe, adventurous, and memorable kayak trip on Muscongus Bay.
